In many cases, these photos were for <em>Pirelli<\/em> magazine, which from 1948 to 1972 often investigated the relationship between people and work. And \u201cfactory reporters\u201d were joined on the pages of the magazine by other great photographers who, in their various ways, helped create a visual story of the world of Pirelli.<\/p>\n<p>One of the finest was <strong>Fulvio Roiter<\/strong>. The great master from Venice made his debut in <em>Pirelli <\/em>no. 6 in December 1962 with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1962_6.html?q=Non%20c%27%C3%A8%20mare%20nel%20porto%20di%20Mileto&amp;start=74&amp;lang=en#page\/74\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">There is no sea in Miletus harbour<\/a>\u201d. The report opened with a magnificent view of Istanbul at dawn. For the magazine, Roiter was constantly on the lookout for unknown lands and, drawing a map year after year, issue after issue, cover after cover, he created a world of images of immense value for Pirelli. Readers travelled with Roiter through the brilliant green <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1963_4.html?q=Fulvio%20Roiter&amp;start=84&amp;lang=en#page\/84\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>forests of rubber trees in Brazil<\/strong><\/a>, through Tehran surrounded by desert, all the way to Maya temples in Mexico and the bright blue vineyards of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1969_1.html?q=Fulvio%20Roiter&amp;start=114&amp;lang=en#page\/114\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madera<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Fulvio Roiter was entranced by the spectacle of nature, it was <strong>life stories<\/strong> that captured the eye of another great photographer, who also worked for the magazine throughout the 1960s: <strong>Ugo Mulas<\/strong>. Strictly in black and white, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1962_5.html?q=Ugo%20Mulas&amp;start=58&amp;lang=en#page\/58\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">miner<\/a> from the Mont Blanc Tunnel passed silently by in front of the Milanese photographer\u2019s lens, followed by Don Zeno Saltini, founder of the community of Nomadelfia, brokers at the horse market, with their felt hats and kerchiefs around their necks, schoolchildren in Chiesa Rossa, and women who became \u201cangels without a hearth\u201d, since work allows for no distinction between the sexes. And with them came the <strong>giants of art, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1968_11.html?q=Ugo%20Mulas&amp;start=89&amp;lang=en#page\/88\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lucio Fontana<\/a><\/strong>, Alberto Giacometti, Fausto Melotti, and Henry Moore, with their torn canvases, blocks of marble, and crumpled bronzes.<\/p>\n<p>The photo shoots by <strong>Pepi Merisio<\/strong>, born in Caravaggio in 1931, conjure up visions that recall those of the filmmaker <strong>Ermanno Olmi<\/strong>, his contemporary and fellow countryman. Here the subjects are mountain homes and flocks of sheep, boats fishing by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1968_7.html?q=Pepi%20Merisio&amp;start=66&amp;lang=en#page\/66\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lamplight<\/a> in the Ligurian Sea, and the farmhouses and villages of Lombardy. We end this tribute to the masters of photography who worked with <em>Pirelli<\/em> magazine with <strong>Enzo Sellerio<\/strong>, and two of the shoots he made for it: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1964_2.html?q=Enzo%20Sellerio&amp;start=64&amp;lang=en#page\/64\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The volcano in bloom<\/a>\u201d in 1964 and \u201cDesert of stone\u201d in 1968, which tell the story of Etna in pictures, a \u201cbattle with a giant of power and patience\u201d and the earthquake in Belice, where \u201cin one night, the homes and churches all became a motionless desert of stone\u201d.
